Week 4: Replace plastic food storage containers

  • Challenge: Kick those plastic food storage containers to the curb.

  • What’s getting the boot? Bisphenol-A (BPA) and phthalatesβ€”the sneaky little chemicals lurking in plastic containers that love to sneak into your food, especially when things heat up (literally).

  • Replacement tip: Switch to glass, stainless steel, silicone containers, or mason or ball jars that serve a duel purposeβ€”the cool, safe squad that keeps your leftovers fresh without any chemical drama. Your food (and your body) will thank you!

Week 3: Switch to natural candles

  • What’s getting the boot? Paraffin wax and those sneaky synthetic fragrances. Turns out, burning traditional paraffin candles is like inviting some not-so-friendly chemicalsβ€”hello, toluene and benzeneβ€”to crash your cozy vibe.

  • Challenge: swap out all those paraffin candles for something a bit kinder to your lungs. Learn what to look for with this helpful guide.

  • Replacement tip: light up soy, beeswax, or coconut wax candles scented with essential oils. Your noseβ€”and your bodyβ€”will throw you a thank-you party! Ready to DIY? Check out this recipe.

Week 2: Replace air fresheners

  • Challenge: Say goodbye to all those chemical cloudsβ€”remove every air freshener and plug-in you can find.

  • What’s getting kicked out: Those sneaky little troublemakers called Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) and synthetic fragrances. Yep, most air fresheners and plug-ins are basically tiny factories pumping out stuff that can give you headaches, mess with your lungs, and even throw your hormones out of whack.

  • Replacement tip: Go old-school with essential oil diffusers or get cozy by simmering cinnamon sticks and citrus peels on the stove. Or try these homemade room spray recipes. Your nose (and your lungs) will thank you for the fresh, chemical-free vibes!

Week 1: Declutter your home

  • Challenge: Declutter one room or area of your house. Donate or recycle items you don’t use.

  • What’s being removed: Dust and hidden allergens from cluttered areas.

  • Replacement tip: Use organizational bins or shelves to keep your spaces clean and dust-free.
